This was taken during DD’s educational field trip last year. We went to Bio Research,  it’s a zoo, a hatchery, a plant nursery, and a store in one. DD’ were delighted when they were given a free fish pet to take care of. We bough a small fish tank. The other fish died already but the other one is already 9 mos. old.

Dog Bites

Written by on May 1, 2010 – 6:29 am -

Our local government is loose when it comes to implementation of the law, one of the major problems in every local municipalities just like ours is the rampant cases of dog bites. There are number of cases that has been recorded but it has not been settled. We knew how dangerous and deadly the rabies is. I remember when my Uncle was bitten by our neighbors’ dog, the owner was so irresponsible that he allowed his dog to wander around the streets. My Uncle was waiting then in a Jeepney stop when the dog suddenly run to him and bite him. Only if we have an Austin dog bite lawyer here, he could have gotten the necessary help in dealing with that irresponsible neighbor of ours. It was my mom who did rushed his brother to the hospital and did take care of the medications like the injection of the anti rabies and antibiotics to take. She did file a complaint at the barangay and good thing the owner of the dog settled all the bills for the medications. Only if he is a responsible pet owner, such situation won’t happen and create inconvenience to both party.

Caring for Pet Fishes

Written by on February 25, 2010 – 11:56 am -

Since we got this pet fishes two weeks ago, I am kinda clueless as how to take care of them, though we were advised on the basics. I though I have killed them when I once tried to clean up the tank and transfer them on a basin. lol!

So I searched and find this nice guide for the beginners:

Owning an aquarium is a very good hobby and helps both adults and children to understand the intricacies of the water world. This means that just as babies have to be handled with care, so do aquariums if you want a variety of fish to survive in it. Nevertheless, it is not a Herculean task. It just requires a little effort to keep an aquarium that resembles the water life in the river and sea bed. You just have to be careful regarding the fish and the accessories that you choose to put into the aquarium.

  1. One way of learning about keeping an aquarium is to go to a zoologist who will let you in on all the ins and outs of what goes into making an aquarium habitable for fish. If you do not have a zoologist near you, fear not! Just go to the local market and buy a good book on keeping fishes in aquariums or search the internet for more information. The shop keepers dealing in aquariums and its accessories will definitely get you started with the basics.
  2. One thing that you need to remember is that the size of the aquarium matters. The bigger the size the easier it will be for you to handle and learn the ropes faster. Before buying an aquarium, you need to decide where you are going to place it as filled tanks are heavy and difficult to move. You must measure the area so as to buy the correct size. When selecting the size, go for the shorter but longer ones even though the taller and narrower aquarium may look appealing. Fish are more comfortable when there is more surface area on top. Though there will be acrylic aquariums available in the market, go for the glass one.
  3. The next step is to choose the correct type of fish for the aquarium. You must always keep in mind the fact that fish must get acclimatized to new surroundings, so buy a few fish that have a high toleration level. Normally in the excitement of building an aquarium, people tend to put in too many fish, only to find them dead in a few days. This happens because the fish go into shock or contract a disease. So just introduce two to three fish at a time and once the nitrogen cycle is set up, then you may add more. However be careful to exercise moderation as you put in fish into the tank.
  4. Along with the fish you will need to purchase gravel to make up the surface, plants for decoration and to regulate the nitrogen cycle, a water heater, a light fixture, a clean bucket to pour water into the aquarium and an aquarium water conditioner. You will encounter the normal teething problems like too much algae or dirty water. In most cases you would have fed the fish too many times. Last but not least, you will need to buy fish food from the local aquarium shop to feed the fish.

Written by on December 2, 2009 – 3:19 am -

Our pet dog Scooby is sick for quite sometime now, I noticed the other day that she doesn’t want eat because she didn’t touched the food that I gave her that morning. She just kept on sleeping the whole day. She has been with us for about 5 years now, she’s of the same age with my eldest daughter. They grew up together and she has been a great part of the family and been a good guard at night too, the intruder who went inside our house one time didn’t manage to steal from us because Scooby is so active that she was able to wake us up.
