Effect of Sleep Deprivation

Written by on February 18, 2010

I felt being unproductive for a couple of days now, it’s either I go to sleep very early or I will wake up from time to time to catch up on my work and end up nothing to accomplish , just like the other day where I did spend three hours researching on the net about studying Mortgage Lending and the causes and effects of it on our financial budget, but end up doing some senseless surfing around the net.  This may have been a result of lack of sleep last week. It almost came to a point where I would experience dizzy spells at the office, very bad I know.  I googled some info about sleep deprivation and here it is:

The effects of sleep deprivation depend on the type of sleep disorder from which you suffer. However, some of the more general effects of lack of sleep include:

* blurry vision
* depression (While depression can cause a lack of sleep, it can also arise from sleep deprivation.)
* dizziness
* dramatic weight loss or gain
* hallucinations
* heart disease
* hypertension (high blood pressure)
* irritability
* memory loss
* nausea
* tremors
* trouble speaking.

People who have the following conditions or lifestyle habits are at a higher risk of suffering from any type of sleep disorder:

* depression
* diabetes
* lack of exercise
* obesity
* poor diet
* use of prescription medication.

Added to that of course is a great and bad effect on physical appearance like, eyebags, puffy eyes, pimples, dry skin. etc. etc.

The mental ability is greatly affected to as you tend to become forgetful and there would be instances that you get to experience memory gap and difficulty in making a wise decision since you can not think clearly.
